Basketball season is right around the corner for the Texas Longhorns.
With newly hired head coach Chris Beard in the wings for the men’s team, it’s easy to feel a bit of strut underneath your feet when you think about what’s on tap for the new season.
Complimenting Beard will be a host of talented Longhorns, including three who were recently named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Awards list, the conference announced today. The last and only Texas player to earn the same award was Maurice Evans in 2000-2001.
Senior guard Marcus Carr was named Preseason Newcomer of the Year and landed a spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 team. Senior guard Andrew Jones and junior forward Tre Mitchell were also named to the Preseason Honorable Mention All-Big 12 team.
Count them up: THREE.
That’s the same amount as the Baylor Bears, the reigning national champions, had on the latest preseason all-conference list.
Texas tips off the season at 7:30pm Central, Monday, Nov. 1 at the Frank Erwin Center.
