Tom Herman, currently an offensive analyst with the Chicago Bears, had four years at the helm for the Texas Longhorns before Steve Sarkisian took over in 2021. Given the Longhorns’ current three-game skid, with a potential fourth consecutive loss on the horizon, it might be time to rethink how we feel about Herman, because it’s apparently a difficult team to coach. That’s why some of the folks at 247Sports are floating Herman’s name as the next head coach for the Texas Tech Red Raiders or the TCU Horned Frogs. From 247Sports:
“Just because Herman didn’t meet that standard doesn’t mean he can’t be a great hire for somebody else. The fact is he’s a proven winner with a knack for offense and highly-rated recruiting classes. That make him worth a look from school presidents, athletic directors and search firms. There should be no problem selling Herman to a fanbase: National title ring, recruiting pedigree (he reeled Bijan Robinson in to Austin), good offensive mind, Texas’ only NY6 Bowl appearance of the last decade, the list goes on. The 46-year-old Herman is an offensive analyst for the Chicago Bears right now so would be conceivably be able to hit the ground immediately for whomever hires him, which is a big asset in the era of the Early Signing Period.”
