Former Texas Longhorns defensive backs coach Jay Valai has officially been hired for the same role with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Valai announced via Twitter earlier this week.
Valai coached under former defensive coordinator Chris Ash in 2020, but took a job with the Houston Cougars towards the end of last year, only to then backpedal and take a different job with the Philadelphia Eagles. He decided against that gig, too.
“We are pleased and happy to be able to add Jay Valai to our staff to coach cornerbacks,” Saban said in a news release following Valai’s official hiring. “Jay is an excellent young coach who possesses outstanding knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. He is a really good teacher and an outstanding recruiter who works tirelessly at his craft. We are excited to welcome Jay and his family to Tuscaloosa.”
