Try out Burnt Orange Nation’s new March Madness chat feature

Help us test out a potential new feature on the site.

NCAA Basketball: Baylor at Texas Austin American Statesman-USA TODAY NETWORK

Burnt Orange Nation was selected to test out a new Game Day Thread experience in development by Vox Media and SB Nation that attempts to provide a better chat features. We’re excited about the opportunity to be one of the first communities to test it out.

The goal of the new platform is to create a commenting experience that resembles more of a live chat feel compared to our current setup that is more engaging and free flowing. We are not expecting it to be perfect or universally beloved, but this is simply a test and a feedback-gathering experiment. We hope that means you’ll come in and participate with an open mind and have fun with it!

Here are some additional details:

  • The live chat will take the place of a traditional game thread, going live at the typical time 30 minutes before the game between Texas and Abilene Christian, which is scheduled for 8:50 p.m. Central on Saturday.
  • Participants may be asked to confirm their email addresses, but there should not be any additional steps needed to join the chat.
  • There will be a survey for you to share all your feedback. The new chat system is very much a work in progress and all constructive feedback is welcome. That feedback will potentially shape how this looks moving forward, so this is a unique opportunity to influence the user experience.
  • Cody and I will be in the chat engaging with you. We’re excited about hanging out and testing it out ourselves.
  • Depending on how things go, it might be something that we keep around if Texas advances.

If anyone is interested in sharing their computer or phone screen during the game, please send me an email (it’s in my profile) because the developers want a look at your experience through your own eyes.
