The Texas Longhorns announced five hires for new head coach Chris Beard’s coaching staff on Thursday — assistant coaches Jerrance Howard, Ulric Maligi, and Rodney Terry, as well as Managing Director Chris Ogden and Special Assistant to the Head Coach Bob Donewald Jr.

Collectively, the group boasts 97 years of coaching experience, 37 NCAA Tournament appearances, and 42 NBA Draft picks, as well as two Final Four appearances. Ogden and Terry return to the Forty Acres with 21 combined years of experience working for the Longhorns.

Terry is the Associate Head Coach after spending the previous 10 seasons as the head coach at Fresno State and UTEP. Under Rick Barnes, Terry spent nine seasons as an assistant at Texas (2002-11), a stretch that featured a record of 232-80 (.744) and nine NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by four trips to the Sweet 16, three Elite Eights, and one Final Four (2003).

After spending the last eight seasons at Kansas under Bill Self, Howard will serve as an assistant coach for Beard. During Howard’s time in Lawrence, he helped develop 12 NBA Draft picks and made one trip to the Final Four (2018). Howard previously served as an assistant at Illinois, where he played under Self, Texas A&M, and SMU.

The other assistant coach, Ulric Maligi, joins Beard from Texas Tech, where he spent the last two seasons and helped land a top-10 recruiting class in 2020. He previously had stops as an assistant at Texas A&M, SMU, Houston, Stephen F. Austin, and UTA.

Odgen, who played and coached under Rick Barnes at Texas, returns to Austin as the Managing Director for Beard after serving as the UTA head coach for the last three seasons. In Odgen’s 18 years as an assistant coach, he’s made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and coached eight NBA Draft picks. Odgen previously worked under Beard at Texas Tech from 2016-18.

The fifth hire is Special Assistant to the Head Coach Bob Donewald Jr., who also worked for Beard the last two seasons in Lubbock. Donewald has extensive coaching experience as an assistant in college, an assistant in the NBA, as well as international experience as a coach in Russia, China, Ukraine, Brazil and Great Britain. Donewald served as the Chinese National Team head coach from 2010 to 2012.
