Michigan WR signee Xavier Worthy requests release from NLI, is linked to Texas

There’s been buzz about Worthy and the Longhorns since Steve Sarkisian was hired after recruiting the California product to Tuscaloosa.

Following months of speculation, Michigan Wolverines signee Xavier Worthy requested a release from his National Letter of Intent on Thursday.

Why does that matter for the Texas Longhorns? Not only did new head coach Steve Sarkisian recruit Worthy with the Alabama Crimson Tide, including getting him on campus in Tuscaloosa after Worthy committed to the Wolverines, the consensus four-star wide receiver was widely linked to the Longhorns after Sarkisian took the job.

So watch out for Texas as Sarkisian looks to add more explosiveness to Andre Coleman’s position room. Worthy unquestionably fits that bill as the No. 8 wide receiver nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and someone who ran a 10.55 100m as a sophomore at Fresno Central East in California, which would immediately make him one of the fastest players on the Forty Acres.

At 6’1 and 160 pounds, Worth is built like Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith and is known as a vertical threat, but also for his ability to run routes like a more seasoned player and create yards after the catch.

Worthy finished the 2021 cycle as the No. 61 recruit nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
