The Washington Football team has selected offensive tackle and former Texas Longhorns Samuel Cosmi with the No. 51st pick overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Cosmi is the first Longhors selected in this year's NFL Draft and the first Texas offensive lineman to hear his name called since Connor Williams in 2018 and the second since Tony Hills in 2008.

Originally committed to the Houston Cougars, Cosmi followed Tom Herman to Austin in 2017 but redshirted his first year on campus.

By the time the 2018 season rolled around, Cosmi solidified himself as the starter at right tackle and finished the year earning freshman All-American honors.

The 6’6, 314-pounder started 34 of 35 career games at Texas and was a first-team All-Big 12 honoree and a second-team All-America selection by CBS Sports/247Sports.

Cosmi’s athleticism is one of his biggest strengths heading into the pros, running a 4.84 40-yard dash at the Texas Pro Day while also benching 36 reps on the bench press.

However, scouts and draft analysts have questioned Comsi’s technique and inconsistency but some of that can also be contributed to the lack of development at Texas. Either way, a 2nd-round selection shows that the Washington Football Team has confidence they can turn Cosmi into a starter.
