After a weekend off and moving up to No. 2 in the Division 1 Baseball poll, the Texas Longhorns will not face off against the Rice Owls on Tuesday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field due to the potential for inclement weather, the school announced in the early afternoon.
The Austin area is currently under a flash flood watch and a tornado watch with heavy rains forecast.
The cancellation marks the second straight game that Texas hasn’t been able to play after last Tuesday’s contest against Texas Southern was called after a rain delay. The Longhorns led that game 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth, but it was declared a no contest because the teams hadn’t completed five innings.
As Texas chases No. 12 TCU in the Big 12 standings — the Horns are currently one game behind the Horned Frogs — a home series against West Virginia to close out the regular season is slated to start on Thursday. Whether the Longhorns are able to complete a game for the first time since beating the Horned Frogs on May 9 will once again depend on the weather, as more rain is forecast for the Austin area for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
