Let the Crootin’ games begin

With the dead period lifted and recruits able to finally visit campuses, Texas is set for a busy summer.

Well folks we finally made it. The seemingly never ending dead period has finally come to an end and now recruits are finally able to spread their wings and venture out to college campuses and make in person contact with coaching staffs.

For some recruits this will be the first time they have been able to have in-person contact with coaching staffs or even step foot on any campus, so needless to say this is going to be a very important part of the cycle for every program

With the turning of the calendar we have already seen the Texas coaching staff begin to campaign as recruits prepare to arrive in Austin over the weekend.

Between hosting camps on campus and official visitors making their way to Austin this weekend there has already been plenty of foot traffic to patrol for the Longhorn staff. Right out of the gate the staff is hosting six official visitors, including three out of state prospects that the staff has been on for a bit.

Four star Bishop Alemany (CA) linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka , four star Lake Charles Prep (LA) running back TreVonte’ Citizen, four Texas High (TX) edge rusher Derrick Brown, three star Tenaha (TX) athlete Jeremy Patton, three star Newton (TX) running back DeAnthony Gaston, and three star Bishop Moore (FL) defensive tackle Bishop Thomas are all in town as official visitors this weekend.

With the way things have been put on pause recruiting wise over the past year, this summer is expected to be absolutely bananas with COVID restrictions being loosened by the NCAA. This weekend’s slate of visitors is basically a warm up before the Longhorns have a huge recruiting weekend bonanza that will include some of the top recruits in the state and the country.

It is not going to be surprising if we start seeing some movement amongst recruitment timelines, but I would not expect anything too crazy right out of the gate as recruits look to see as many campuses as they can throughout the summer.

One of the biggest names slated to make a trip to Austin this month is 2023 Isidore Newman (LA) five star quarterback Arch Manning and the early buzz around Manning and Texas has been positive. Texas will no doubt have to square off with the best of the best to land Manning, but it is safe to say that Steve Sarkisian has made some good strides early in this recruitment and has the youngest Manning’s attention.

It is time to buckle up, hydrate, and make sure you pace yourselves this summer. Things are going to get a little hot and crazy, but everyone needs to remember that this is a marathon and not a sprint. There is a lot of cycle left and it is going to be a bit of a free for all moving forward.
