In the Big 12 Preseason Poll chosen by the media, the Texas Longhorns were picked to finish third, behind the Oklahoma Sooners and the Iowa State Cyclones.
Oklahoma, which has won the last six Big 12 titles, received the most votes for the sixth straight season. Since 2011, the Sooners have topped the preseason poll nine times and hold a conference-record 14 titles.
Iowa State received four first-place votes after finishing as the runner up last season.
Texas finished fourth in the conference last season, a half game behind Oklahoma State at 6-3 in the Big 12 in head coach Tom Herman’s final year with the Longhorns. So the expectations have risen for new head coach Steve Sarkisian, who is seeking the first 10-win season of his head coaching career as he looks to replace four-year starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger.
The top two teams in the league standings will compete in the Big 12 Football Championship Game on Saturday, December 4 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Big 12 Football Media Days will be conducted next Wednesday and Thursday, July 14-15 with sophomore running back Bijan Robinson and junior nose tackle Keondre Coburn representing the Longhorns.
