Texas lands commitment from 4-star edge J’mond Tapp

The Horns continue to add talent in the trenches with the addition of Louisiana product J’mond Tapp.

Monday proved to be a major day in the trenches for Steve Sarkisian’s 2022 class as they landed their second pledge, with the latest coming in the form of Donaldsonville (La.) Ascension Catholic edge J’mon Tapp.

Prior to his surprise evening pledge, Tapp’s Crystal Ball entirely favored the home-state LSU Tigers, so this certainly serves as a welcomed win for the Horns. Tapp took just one official visit before coming to his decision, but that visit was to the Forty Acres in late June.

“Texas is a strong suit for me. They’re up there,” Tapp told Orangebloods’ Jason Suchomel following his visit. “They’re up there in the strong suit. One, it’s just my dream school. It’s the only college I really knew about when I was young.”

A little more than two months later, Tapp is a Longhorn, becoming just the latest interior addition to a group that headlines Sarkisian’s 2022 class.

A four-star prospect, Tapp is currently ranked as the nation’s No. 9 edge rusher and as the No. 134 player overall, per the 247Sports Composite. Tapp joins four-star Marlin defensive lineman Jaray Bledsoe as Monday pledges, and commit No. 20 as part of a class that headlines the Big 12 and ranks No. 7 nationally.

As a junior, the 6’3, 245-pound Tapp tallied 64 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
