- Even though there aren’t any changes to the depth chart, Notre Dame transfer Ovie Oghoufo started the game at the Buck end position and out-performed LSU transfer Ray Thornton by a considerable margin. So expect Oghoufo to come out with the first-team defense on Saturday.
- Junior tight end Jared Wiley was limited against the Ragin’ Cajuns due to a shoulder injury he suffered prior to the game. Wiley may not be fully healthy by Saturday, which would mean another game with extended playing time for freshman Gunnar Helm.
- Junior right guard Junior Angilau suffered a knee injury against Louisiana and may not be available against Arkansas. Redshirt freshman Hayden Conner is the No. 6 offensive lineman and replaced Angilau even though he’s listed on the depth chart at right tackle.
- Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian did not provide an update on redshirt freshman Troy Omeire on Monday. Omeire missed the season opener due to a knee injury he sustained in the open practice last month.
- What happened with Alfred Collins? Former walk-on Jett Bush saw much more extensive playing time than Collins, who recently made the move to defensive end after playing inside last year and during spring practice. Bush did have a sack, but wasn’t especially disruptive, in line with the difficulties he had producing impact plays last season.
- Sophomore safety Jerrin Thompson is truly a co-starter with super senior safety Brenden Schooler. The big lead and heat may have influenced the rotations on defense, but it’s worth noting that Thompson played more snaps than Schooler.
