A new era is upon us, that new era is Jonathon Brooks as RB #1. The Longhorns face off against No. 12 Washington next Thursday in the all to familiar Alamo Bowl. Jonathon Brooks will be the number 1 man at the running back position and my oh my am I ready for this game. Brooks has rushed for 322 yards and five touchdowns in his career, all while averaging 7.2 yards per carry. While we all face sadness in seeing Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson move on to the next the level, we should not let that deter us from seeing the special and talented player Longhorn nation has in Jonathon Brooks.
Brooks has reportedly been quite impressive during bowl practices, and in no way can we forget him taking it 70 yards to the house against Kansas midway through the 4th quarter. Brooks closed out the Kansas game with 108 yards on 11 attempts and 2 touchdowns. He has yet to disappoint this season in 24 attempts totaling 179 yards and 4 touchdowns, with one of those scores coming in the Longhorns overwhelming 49-0 victory against the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl.
While the shoes of Bijan and Roschon are some awfully large one's to fill, Coach Steve Sarkisian seems to have all of the faith in the world in Brooks doing just that. With the number 1 running back in the nation of the 2023 class Cedric Baxter joining the Longhorns already impressive RB room, we should have no shortage in talented players who want the ball in their hands. The Alamo Bowl provides Brooks with an awesome opportunity to set himself up for Longhorn stardom come December 9th.
