Bevo’s Daily Roundup: Texas among middle-of-the-pack in spring football Big 12 rankings

It’s tough to categorize expectations for the Texas Longhorns heading into the 2022 season.

For the most part, talking heads and analyst types have Texas ranked among the middle-of-the-pack. Take USA Today’s recent rankings of the Big 12 Conference as one example.

From USA Today, who have the Longhorns at fifth in the Big 12 in 2022: “To call Sarkisian’s debut a disaster might be disrespectful to disasters. The Longhorns lost six games in a row in the middle of the season, including an epic meltdown against Oklahoma and missed out on a bowl game for the third time in seven seasons. Quinn Ewers is being heralded as the savior, but the freshman quarterback still is a work in progress and asking him to carry the load is unrealistic. The bigger fixes are needed on the offensive line and defense. Until those are resolved, it’s hard to consider Texas among the contenders.”
