The Big 12 Conference is set to gain new leadership once outgoing commissioner Bob Bowlsby steps down later this summer. In fact, the conference expects to have a new commissioner by the time its media days rolls around on July 13 and July 14, the Associated Press reports. But who will it be? And what traits are best suited for the role, we wonder?
“In preparing for the search, what the firm realized was that there was a great alignment among our conference in terms of the vision and the strengths that we need,” said Texas Tech president Lawrence Schovanec, the chairman of the Big 12’s board of directors, per the AP. “So that pool reflects a diversity of candidates in their professional experience, some from the more traditional athletic administrative roles and then others.”
