The No. 7 Texas Longhorns survived a road test against the Houston Cougars, but saw several key players go down with injury — including quarterback Quinn Ewers to a shoulder injury.
The Longhorns will be without Ewers for the next few games, as head coach Steve Sarkisian described the injury as week-to-week, meaning that Texas will turn to either Maalik Murphy or Arch Manning in the interim. While Murphy took the field in relief on Saturday, it seems like Texas will let the competition play out during the week and let the winner take the field for the next several weeks.
Coming to town is a BYU Cougars team, who sits at 2-2 in conference play after four weeks of inconsistent play. The Cougars went into Lubbock and got their first win over a legacy Big 12 school with a two-score win over a Texas Tech Red Raiders team that continues to flounder in 2023.
Sarkisian addressed the media ahead of the Longhorns’ matchup with the Cougars, who are hoping to extend their win streak over Texas.
