In announcing redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers will be back under center this week versus TCU, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian also elaborated on backup redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy’s taking over signal-caller duties in recent weeks.
“I think there are a lot of things that he did the last two weeks he should be very proud of,” Sarkisian said this week, according to On3. “He really tried to execute our game plans at a high level. I thought his ability to throw the deep ball was very evident in both games. His arm talent definitely showed up and to create explosive plays. I think he should have confidence that he can make plays or critical moments so that he can put together a drive in the fourth quarter against Kansas State. He gives us the lead back with a critical fourth down conversion, and a couple of nice completions there to add.
Sarkisian later added, “I think the biggest thing for him is when he takes a step back and looks at, ‘Okay, where can I improve?’ And that’s the stuff we’ve been working on here for the last two weeks, trying to minimize the not-so-great plays.”
