Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed confidence during his weekly press conference on Monday that sophomore right guard DJ Campbell and junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy will be available for Friday’s regular-season finale against the Texas Tech Red Raiders at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
“That was a physical game Saturday night,” said Sarkisian. “We had a variety of guys that went down. I don’t foresee any of those guys being out Friday. We need to monitor that as the week goes, but I do feel confident enough today that everyone who was available Saturday night will be available Friday night.”
Campbell suffered an injury in the first half against Iowa State and was replaced by sophomore Cole Hutson at right guard, though he remained on the field and dressed to play. Worthy left the game with an apparent left leg injury.
Several other players were also banged up in Ames, including freshman running back CJ Baxter, who left the field before halftime with an apparent back issue before returning and finishing the game with 117 rushing yards, a career high, and junior tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, who landed awkwardly on a catch in the second quarter and limped off the field before returning for the second half.
Texas did get senior safety Jalen Catalon back against Iowa State — after sitting out since suffering a leg injury in the Cotton Bowl loss to Oklahoma, the Arkansas transfer recorded one tackle on Saturday.
