Following a trip to New York City to play in the Empire Classic and a break for Thanksgiving, the No. 15 Texas Longhorns are back in action on Sunday at the Moody Center against the Wyoming Cowboys.

Fourth-year head coach Jeff Linder has Wyoming off to a 4-1 start this season after two wins and a loss in the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Ranked No. 154 in KenPom.com’s adjusted efficiency metric, the Cowboys are shooting 49.1 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three-point range, which ranks No. 18 nationally.

Senior guard Sam Griffin, who previously played for UT-Arlington and Tulsa, leads the team in scoring at 20.4 points per game thanks to a scorching shooting start to the season — the Florida product is hitting 55.2 percent from the floor and 51.9 percent from three while taking 5.4 three-pointers per game.

Complementing Griffin at the guard spot is Fort Lewis senior transfer Akuel Kot, averaging 15.4 points and 3.4 assists per game. Freshman forward Cam Manyawu is off to a strong start to his collegiate career, averaging double digits in scoring and leading the team with 7.8 rebounds per game.

After beating Louisville and falling short in an attempted comeback against No. 5 UConn in the Empire Classic, Texas is 4-1 on the season and ranked No. 32 nationally by KenPom.com with the nation’s No. 29 offense and No. 42 defense.

Sophomore forward Dillon Mitchell is coming off the best performance of his career against the Huskies, scoring 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds and two blocks in a career-high 37 minutes. Mitchell is the team’s leading rebounder (8.4 rpg) and also paces the Longhorns in blocks (7) while scoring 11.6 points per game on 63.9-percent shooting.

It’s the fourth meeting between the two programs with Wyoming holding a 2-1 advantage in games all played on neutral floors with the last matchup a 44-35 win by the Cowboys in 1949 on their way to the national championship.
