Texas remains at No. 7 in the AP Poll

Despite No. 2 Ohio State losing to No. 3 Michigan, the Buckeyes stayed in front of the Longhorns this week.

Following a convincing 55-7 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Friday, the Texas Longhorns secured a spot in next Saturday’s Big 12 Championship game, but weren’t able to move up in the AP Poll Top 25, remaining at No. 7.

It’s potentially concerning news ahead of Tuesday’s release of the College Football Playoff rankings because then-No. 2 Ohio State stayed in front of Texas at No. 6 despite losing to then-No. 3 Michigan on Saturday in Ann Arbor — if the Buckeyes maintain that position in the CFP rankings, it could effectively block the Longhorns from having a chance at making the top four, even with a win over the Cowboys in Arlington next week.

Voters in the poll also declined to punish undefeated Florida State for losing star quarterback Jordan Travis to an injury last week or for Saturday’s narrow victory over a Florida team that now sits at 5-7.

In the Coaches Poll, Texas also remained at No. 7 with Ohio State one spot ahead at No. 6 and Florida State at No. 4.
