In the early going, a handful of other Power Five programs have also entered the mix for the 5’11, 195-pounder, including Auburn, Miami, Oregon, UC, and Washington.
A consensus three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class out of Belleville, Mi. ranked as the No. 120 wide receiver nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Burks committed to Purdue over offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa State, and Kentucky, among others.
Burks redshirted his first season with the Boilermakers while recording one catch for 26 yards before taking on a bigger role in 2022 with 15 receptions for 149 yards. As a redshirt sophomore, Burks emerged as the team’s leading receiver, catching 47 passes for 629 yards and seven touchdowns. In the season opener against Fresno State, Burks turned in his best performance of the season with four catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns, including an 84-yard touchdown catch, a slant that featured multiple broken tackles.
With juniors Xavier Worthy and AD Mitchell expected to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, Texas is expected to be a major player in the portal looking to find proven players at the position.
