Five-star Texas WR target Ryan Williams decommits from Alabama

The Under Armour All-American played high school football with 2025 Longhorns quarterback pledge KJ Lacey.

The fallout from the retirement of Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban was swift on Wednesday, at least for one elite prospect in the 2024 class — Saraland (Ala.) wide receiver Ryan Williams announced his decommitment from the Crimson Tide.

In addition to Saban’s retirement, Alabama wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins recently left to become the co-offensive coordinator under Mike Elko at Texas A&M.

The consensus five-star prospect has also been considering other options since re-classifying from the 2025 recruiting class and choosing not to sign during the early signing period, setting up official visits to Texas on January 27 and Auburn on February 3 following a trip to Texas A&M this weekend.

The Longhorns have a tie to the 6’0.5, 165-pounder because his teammate, consensus four-star quarterback KJ Lacey, is committed to Texas in the 2025 recruiting class. However, Auburn may be the leader with two 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions coming in for the Tigers in the wake of his decommitment from the Crimson Tide.

A consensus five-star prospect, Williams is ranked as the No. 12 player nationally and the No. 4 wide receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
