Texas rises into Top 10 in latest D1Baseball rankings

The Longhorns jumped out to a good start in conference play after their weekend series victory over Texas Tech.

Excellent pitching and timely hitting helped the Texas Longhorns take two of the three (W 4-3, L 0-4, W 4-3) series home games over the No. 11 Texas Tech Raiders this weekend. A 2-1 start to conference play improved the team’s record to 15-7 on the season and bolstered them to No. 4 in the newest Baseball America rankings.

The Horns will be tested again this week against Top 25 talent, as last year’s CWS runner-up and former rival, the No. 11 Arkansas Razorbacks, come to Austin for two-game weekday series. The Razorbacks have won 12 of their last 13 games after suffering a loss in extra-innings against USC back in late February.

Following that midweek series, Texas will travel to Fort Worth this weekend to take on the No. 22 TCU Horned Frogs, who will be playing in their first Big 12 series of the season. The Horned Frogs have a win over No. 8 Vanderbilt and losses to No. 13 Texas A&M and Rice thus far.

Throughout this baseball season, we’ll provide a weekly update on where Texas stands in each of the college baseball ranking systems every Monday. For the sake of the ranking systems, we’ll be using D1Baseball, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game, and the USA Today Coaches Poll for our weekly ranking sources.
