Coming off of a week in which the Longhorns played five games, Texas is looking to kick off another busy week later today at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The newly-minted No. 12 Texas Longhorns return to action this afternoon with a home game against the visiting UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros. Texas leads the all time series 50-6.
Last week saw the Longhorns take four of five games, including an impressive three-game sweep over the then No. 2 LSU Tigers. This week also features a five-game slate, with a four-game road-trip to Palo Alto to face the No. 6 Stanford Cardinal looming this weekend.
However, tonight starts at home. Texas is looking to make up for their last midweek game and avenge its loss against a UT satellite school, as they fell to UTSA, 10-7.
The Longhorns will turn to RHP Matt Whelan for the start. Whelan, a sophomore, has appeared in two games this season, posting a rather impressive 1.50 ERA in 6 IP, with 4 hits, 1 BB and 2 HBP allowed to go with 3 strikeouts and a 1-0 record.
UTRGV will send senior RHP Jerred Quartier to the mound in opposition. The experienced Vaquero has a pristine 1-0 mark on the season, and has yet to allow an earned run this year.
The game is set to start at 4:30 PM. If it’s too cold or too early to catch the Longhorns up close and in action at the Disch, you can see the game on Longhorn Network or listen to it live at work on 104.9 the Horn.
Back to work! First pitch at 4:30 p.m.
