The Texas Longhorns escaped from Storrs with a big-time 55-54 victory over the UConn Huskies courtesy of senior forward Jonathan Holmes hitting a game-winning three pointer with 2.2 seconds left on the clock:
Texas had the opportunity to take the lead after star UConn point guard Ryan Boatright missed the second of two free throws, his only miss on the day from the line.
On the ensuing possession, the Longhorns tried to get into a dribble-handoff set, but looked out of sync, prompting a timeout from head coach Rick Barnes.
But the inbounds play got Holmes the open three from the corner and he sunk it despite an awkward release.
After the make from Holmes, who scored 13 points, the senior is now 13 of 21 from distance on the year for a sizzling 61.9 three-point percentage.
