Texas Longhorns Head Basketball Coach Shaka Smart had a very special guest on his radio show this week.
That guest was his wife, Maya Smart, who was part of two segments on "Longhorn Weekly with Shaka Smart."
The two met while Shaka was an assistant coach with the Akron Zips and Maya was the editor of the Akron Beacon Journal.
As you can see in the above clip, the pair met on a blind date, and the rest is history. Maya answers a series of questions from host Craig Way, saying Shaka has incredible energy and enthusiasm both as a coach and as a husband and father.
Maya Smart is pretty accomplished herself. Named after famous author and poet Maya Angelou, she holds a bachelor's degree in social studies from Harvard University and a Master's Degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
Shaka actually describes himself as the more laid back of the two, saying "in most big decisions, she usually has more of a say." Shaka turned down numerous offers while coaching at VCU and the pair went through a 14-point checklist when deciding whether or not to move to Austin, which proved to be a fit for both.
