Shaka Smart’s men’s basketball team isn’t dancing this season, but Karen Aston’s Lady Longhorns are, marking the program’s fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 30th all-time.
With the field set, the Longhorns earned the No. 3 overall seed in the Lexington region and will face off with No. 14-seeded Central Arkansas.
Although it’s the Lexington (Ky.) region, the first two rounds of the tournament will be held at campus sites with the top four seeds in each region hosting subregional matchups.
This, in turn, allows the Longhorns to kick off the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament right at home in the Frank Erwin Center on Friday.
The ‘Horns finished the season regular season with a 23-8 (13-3) record before falling short in the Big 12 Tournament to the eventual tournament champions, West Virginia. Central Arkansas, albeit having traveled a much less competitive road, finished the season at 26-4 en route to a second straight Southland Conference championship.
None of that matters now, though. What happens on Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2 does. It’s win or go home time now.
