Former VCU guard Darius Theus joins Shaka Smart’s staff at Texas

A busy offseason for Shaka Smart has now seen yet another move unfold.

Just under a month after Smart promoted Mike Morrell from Director of Operations back to his previous role as an Assistant Coach, Smart has added former VCU guard Darius Theus to his staff as the Director of Player Personnel.

Smart and Theus’ time together began between 2009-2013, when Theus played for Smart at VCU. Following a brief professional career overseas, Theus returned to VCU last season to serve as the Rams’ Director of Student-Athlete Development, in which he worked with the off-court development of players. Now, Theus is once again reunited with the coach that he played for just a few years ago.

During his four-year career in Richmond, Theus compiled 760 points, 460 assists and 236 steals as part of Smart’s “Havoc” system.
