Following an impressive two-game slate, Texas Longhorns freshman forward Jaxson Hayes has been honored as the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Big, the league announced on Monday.

Hayes shares the honor with Iowa State freshman guard Talen Horton-Tucker.

Last Monday, Hayes opened the week with 11 points on 5-of-8 from the field, five rebounds, and three blocks in a 65-55 win over Louisiana Monroe. Hayes followed that effort up on Friday with 12 points on an efficient 4-of-5 from the field, in addition to seven rebounds and one block in just 16 minutes.

Collectively, the former four-star product averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks, helping the Longhorns improve to 4-0.

Through four games, Hayes currently leads the team with eight blocked shots, which is twice as many as sophomore Jericho Sims, whose four rejections are second on the team. Hayes is also second on the team with 24 rebounds, behind only senior forward Dylan Osetkowski (39).

At 9.3 points per game, Hayes is currently the team’s forth-leading scorer, ahead of talents such as Matt Coleman (7.3), Jericho Sims (6.5), Jase Febres (7.5), and Courtney Ramey (9.0).
