Young seemed poised to have an increased role in his third year at Texas. In the 2017-2018 season, he appeared in 30 games for the Longhorns, averaging 6.2 points per game in 16.8 minutes. Young’s minutes dwindled in the middle of the season, but Young saw his contributions increase after Eric Davis Jr. was held out of the final six games of the season.
His biggest game of his came late last season the season, a 29-point explosion against Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament. However, he struggled in the NCAA tournament loss to Nevada and announced his intentions to transfer a week later.
The Scarlet Knights need plenty of help for the upcoming season — after finishing 15-19 in the 2017-2018 regular season, including a 3-15 conference record. Rutgers needs to replace its top two scorers from a year ago after Corey Sanders declared for the NBA draft and Deshawn Freeman graduated.
