Following arguably the most impressive week of his young tenure with the Texas Longhorns, freshman guard Courtney Ramey has been honored as the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Ramey shares the award with Kansas forward and former Memphis transfer, Dedric Lawson.

In helping guide the Longhorns to a pair of key conference wins over Baylor and West Virginia, Ramey averaged 14.5 points, four rebounds, and four assists per contest.
More notably, Ramey’s most recent performance was arguably his more praiseworthy as a Longhorn. After reaching double figures in the scoring column in Texas’ 84-72 win over Baylor, Ramey tied his career-high on the road just days later, leading the Longhorns to a 75-53 blowout win over West Virginia with 19 points. 15 of those points came courtesy of Ramey’s sharpshooting efforts, as he connected on 5-of-6 attempts from three, which also tied a career-high previously set against Georgia.

“I hope so,” Texas head coach Shaka Smart said on Monday when asked if the West Virginia game can serve as a springboard for Ramey. “He’s a guy that’s capable of being terrific player here and what I love about him is he has a purity to his competitiveness that is as good as anyone I’ve coached.
“He just wants to compete and win,” Smart added. “He has a raw emotion to him that sometimes can get the best of him, but is 99 percent of the time a really good thing.”
On Tuesday evening, Ramey and the Longhorns return to the Frank Erwin Center to host the No. 18 Kansas State Wildcats (18-5, 8-2 Big 12). Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Central.
