For the first time since their season was cut short ahead of the 2020 Big 12 Tournament, the Texas Longhorns are back in action on Wednesday evening as they kick their 2020-21 campaign off at home against UTRGV.
Ranked No. 19 entering the season, Shaka Smart’s squad returns all 12 scholarship players from last season and now incorporates five-star freshman forward Greg Brown III into the mix. That wealth of depth, experience, and talent has Texas primed for potentially its best season under Smart — that is, if he can get the pieces to fit properly.
Tonight, we get our first glimpse as to how Smart plans to do that.
Junior guard Andrew Jones will miss the game — he has a cough and is being held out for precautionary reasons. In addition, Smart will have a towel over one shoulder during the pregame as a tribute to late Georgetown head coach John Thompson.
Tip-off between Texas and UTRGV is set for 7 p.m. CT on Longhorn Network.
