Texas lands Utah SF transfer Timmy Allen

What’s become a notably fruitful 24 hours on the roster front for new Texas Longhorns head basketball coach Chris Beard isn’t done just yet, as Utah Utes forward transfer Timmy Allen announced on Tuesday evening that he’s committed to Texas.

The news of Allen’s transfer comes just hours after Beard and the Horns also landed a transfer pledge from former Kentucky guard Devin Askew, and on the same day that redshirt junior guard Andrew Jones announced his return to the program.

Similarly, senior sharpshooter Jase Febres announced his return to Austin late Monday night.

Allen will arrive in Austin next season following a First-Team All-Pac 12 performance in 2020-21, as he averaged 17.2 points on 46.5 percent from the field to go along with 6.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists. He scored at least 20 points eight times last season, so that will certainly be a welcomed addition for a Texas squad that’s likely to lose much of its productivity from last season.

At 6’6, 198 pounds, Allen’s a high-usage offensive wing who excels at drawing fouls, where he converts at nearly 77 percent from the line. He isn’t the strongest perimeter shooter, however, connecting on on only 26.8 percent of his 41 attempts. Defensively, his presence is most notably on the glass as a strong rebounder.

Allen will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
