During a Tuesday afternoon availability for head coach Charlie Strong, the Texas Longhorns announced that redshirt freshman wide receiver Jake Oliver and redshirt freshman Erik Huhn will both miss the Orange-White game on Saturday that makes the end of spring practice.

The school said that Oliver will be out with an elbow injury and that Huhn is suffering from a knee injury. The Horns will also be without prospective starting quarterback David Ash, who suffered a Jones fracture in his left foot that was revealed on Friday.

A Dallas Jesuit product, the 6'4, 205-pound Oliver was a US Army All-American out of high school, but could not crack the rotation last fall to earn playing time, despite breaking the Texas state career receptions record during his prep years. With a number of more experienced receivers in front of him, there has not been much buzz about Oliver earning playing time this fall, either.

Huhn is a 6'3, 207-pounder who may end up as a hybrid safety/outside linebacker if he continues to add weight. He redshirted last season in part because he was still recovering from an ACL injury that ended his high school career during the first game of his senior season when he landed wrong coming down with an interception. His Texas sports profile also suggests that he battled a shoulder injury.

The hope is obviously that the current injury is not involved with his previous ACL tear.

After losing sophomore offensive tackle Kent Perkins early in the spring and Ash last week, the coaches are surely hoping to get through the spring game without any more injuries. The good news is that none of the injuries are currently expected to impact next season unless Ash's fracture does not respond to surgery and it would be nice to keep it that way.
