Kai Locksley’s career at Texas never amounted to what he may have hoped entering Austin so after announcing his intent to transfer and receiving his official release from the univiserity, the former quarterback-turned-wide-receiver thanked the Longhorns via Twitter.

Locksley came to Texas as a four-star dual-threat quarterback, but between Jerrod Heard’s brief emergence last season and the arrival and cemented position of true freshman quarterback Shane Buechele, Locksley elected to try his luck at wide receiver—an even more competitive position on the roster. Obviously, that move never panned out and after a season and a half, Locksley was yet to see the field at Texas.
Locksley is now free to contact other schools and have other schools reach out to him.
He becomes the fourth 2015 signee to leave the program, following in the steps of Ryan Newsome (Arizona State), DeAndre McNeal (Fullerton College) and Cecil Cherry (South Florida).
