WATCH: Texas Longhorns DB coach Clay Jennings mic'd up

"We want to be able to put those guys in a situation where they can play fast and have some success."

Texas Longhorns defensive backs coach Clay Jennings is the latest to get the mic'd up treatment from TexasSports.com, who filmed him at a recent practice. Jennings, a new hire this season who previously worked as a position coach with the Arkansas Razorbacks, is in charge of the secondary at the official DBU. He replaces Chris Vaughn, who did not have his contract renewed following the 2015 season.

The players Jennings will work with include a trio of young cornerbacks who played last season as freshmen: Holton Hill, Davante Davis and Kris Boyd. He also coaches a sixth-year senior in Sheroid Evans.

'Horns head coach Charlie Strong describes Jennings as a personable coach with a lot of energy, which can be seen in the way he jokes with his players early in the clip.

"We've got a group of good players here," says Jennings, a Waco native who has also coached at Baylor, Houston and TCU. "We want to be able to put those guys in a situation where they can play fast and have some success. Once guys start really playing with pride and a sense of urgency, and they learn what it means to represent the University of Texas, that toughness is going to come."
