The quarterback position in Austin appears to be in capable hands for the next few seasons with true freshman Shane Buechele leading the Texas Longhorns, and this weekend's Elite 11 Finals will provide a glimpse of his expected successor with Austin Westlake's Sam Ehlinger representing his city and his future team.

Ehlinger will join 23 other finalists in Los Angeles from June 3 to June 5, along with TCU commit Shawn Robinson and Oklahoma commit Chris Robison. The local product now joins a lengthy list of Longhorns who have appeared in the Elite 11 Finals, including Buechele, Jerrod Heard, Tyrone Swoopes and even Connor Brewer, to name a few.
Of those in Elite 11 Finals pool, Ehlinger has the talent to headline the entire event. Just ask former Westlake quarterback and Super Bowl Champion Drew Brees, who raved about Ehlinger in a recent interview on Austin's AM 1300 The Zone:
"I couldn't be more impressed with Sam and his leadership ability and, obviously, his talent," Brees said. "They made it all the way to the state championship last year, obviously I know it didn't end the way that they wanted it to, but their future is very bright there and I know Sam's future is bright as well."
Ehlinger ranks as the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback in the country and No. 22 player in Texas.
