Texas TE Andrew Beck, S Chris Brown to miss time with injuries

New, comments

The ‘Horns will have to do without their starting tight end and backup safety for the foreseeable future.

Two Texas Longhorns will now miss time due to injuries, as senior tight end Andrew Beck fractured his foot in practice on Wednesday and redshirt freshman Chris Brown suffered a high ankle sprain in practice on Monday, the school announced Wednesday.

It still unclear just how much time Beck will miss with the season just over two weeks away, as the staff is still reviewing treatment options, but his absence is a blow to Texas’ tight end room. Beck’s latest foot fracture comes to the same foot he re-broke in February, which caused him to miss time throughout the spring.

A projected starter, Beck headlined a position that finally found room for optimism with the arrival of Syracuse graduate transfer Kendall Moore and true freshman Reese Leitao performing above expectations, Texas will likely enter the season with just one reliable tight end option, as Leitao is suspended for the first two games.

Brown, on the other hand, wasn’t set to start entering his redshirt freshman season, but he’s reportedly been having a good camp. As announced by a University of Texas spokesperson, he’ll be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

“His treatment and rehabilitation will require an extended amount of time.”
