The Texas Longhorns 2017 team captains have been announced!

On Friday night, Tom Herman announced senior linebacker Naashon Hughes, senior defensive tackle Poona Ford, junior nickelback P.J. Locke III and junior left tackle Connor Williams as the team’s captains for the 2017 season.

The 2017 crop of captains aligns with how the first offseason under Herman has played out.

Locke has earned no shortage of praise from the coaching staff this offseason, with much of the same being directed towards Hughes, who has been praised or emerging as a leader entering his final season on the Forty Acres. Williams, the lone offensive inclusion, is quite easily the team’s best player and the top NFL prospect, while Ford has reportedly stepped into a more vocal leadership since Herman and the new staff’s arrival. Herman previously named Ford as the hardest worker on the team following the Orange-White game in April.

Locke, Hughes and Williams each joined Herman for Big 12 Media Days in July.

For the ‘Horns to take the desired steps forward in 2017, much will be required from each of the four captains and as evident by giving them that honor, Herman expects the same.
