Texas Longhorns true freshman wide receiver and return specialist, D’Shawn Jamison, has secured the first weekly award of his collegiate career.

On Monday, Jamison was honored as the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, courtesy of a 90-yard punt return taken back for a touchdown in Texas’ 19-14 road win over Kansas State.

A former four-star Under Armour All-American, Jamison excelled as a returner and at cornerback throughout his career at Houston Lamar High School, but given how elusive and electric he’s proven to be with the ball in his hands, the Longhorns staff moved Jamison to wide receiver upon his arrival on the Forty Acres.

Thus far, Jamison is yet to impact the game offensively, as his stat sheet currently features two carries for negative-six yards and two receptions for -15 yards, but Jamison put his explosive ability on full display on Saturday as a returner, and in doing so, he put the first seven points on the board in what became a five-point win.

The Longhorns primary returner, Jamison has also fielded nine kick returns for 189 yards.
