Despite coming off of a bye week, the Texas Longhorns took a step forward in the updated Associated Press Top 25, climbing one spot from No. 7 to No. 6.
The Longhorns trail a top five featuring No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 LSU, and No. 5 Michigan.
The notable exclusion is Ohio State, which entered the weekend at No. 2 before being overwhelmed by Purdue, 49-20. The Buckeyes, consequently, fell outside of the top 10 to No. 11.
Elsewhere, the Longhorns climbed in the Amway Coaches Poll as well, improving one spot from No. 8 to No. 7.
Of the Longhorns remaining opponents, only West Virginia is ranked, with the Mountaineers coming in at No. 13. But prior to what’s shaping up to be a ranked showdown against West Virginia, Texas (6-1, 4-0) will be back in action on Saturday evening when the Longhorns travel to Stillwater, Okla. for a Big 12 meeting with the Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-3, 1-3).
