Immediately following the emotional win over the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns players and coaches refused to address whether or not “Texas is back.” But one thing is for certain — the Longhorns have returned to the national spotlight.
Texas jumped ten spots in the Associated Press polls to No. 9 and if they win out, will play in their first Big 12 title game since 2009. But first, they will have to take on the Baylor Bears Saturday in Austin.
The Longhorns have won three-straight and four of the last six against the Bears, but coming off of a big emotional win the team must avoid a letdown at home.
Texas head coach Tom Herman is set to address the media Monday for his weekly press conference.
Herman: "21 point lead with 11 minutes to go, the football bible tells you you've got to take the air out of it and slow your offense down. We didn't execute very well when we did that." #HookEm

Herman: "I'm maybe the most proud of how they came to work yesterday." #HookEm

Herman on #Baylor: “This is a winning football team coming in here… We understand there’s a lot at stake. Each step we take makes the next one that much more important.” #HookEm

Herman: "We're not elite fast on offense right now, but what we are doing is we're playing to our strengths really well. We do have size and strength at the skill positions." #HookEm

Herman said Lil'Jordan Humphrey's push-the-pile gain against OU was a "snapshot of the definition of our culture."

Herman on the outside noise: "Roughly about 24 hours after the game ended, I was up to 197 text messages (after OU). I got 9 after we lost to Maryland."
— Brian Davis (@BDavisAAS) October 8, 2018
Herman said "there are no midseason conference championship trophies. Bob Bowlsby was there. He didn't hand us a trophy."
— Kirk Bohls (@kbohls) October 8, 2018
Herman on where winning isn't a bonus but expected: "I don't think we're at a place right now where you can say winning is expected, and I think that's okay." #HookEm
— Joe Cook (@josephcook89) October 8, 2018
Herman: "Expecting to win, just that word ‘expect’ in my mind breeds entitlement. It breeds arrogance. We don’t expect anything than what we’ve earned."
— Brian Davis (@BDavisAAS) October 8, 2018
"Have you seen the last four years?" Herman asked to give some perspective on Texas. "Our kids really believe we have to play our best to win. But if we do play our best, we have a great chance to win."
— Kirk Bohls (@kbohls) October 8, 2018
"Our team really believes in him now," Herman said of QB Sam Ehlinger. "Certainly not a finished product."
— Kirk Bohls (@kbohls) October 8, 2018
Herman on what he told Sam Ehlinger after #Texas lost to #Maryland: “You don’t need to look over your shoulder. I’ll tell you when you need to… We all lost that game.” #HookEm
