After making an early exit from the Kansas game with an apparent head injury suffered during a punt return, Texas Longhorns starting safety Brandon Jones is “on track” to play in the Big 12 Championship against the Oklahoma Sooners, Tom Herman announced on Monday during his weekly media availability.
Herman said he expect that Jones will return to practice on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.
During Texas’ first meeting with Oklahoma this season — a 48-45 Longhorns win — Jones played a key role in leading the team with nine tackles and securing the lone interception of the game.
Elsewhere, Herman said “We’ve got a lot guys walking around like their old men,” but noted that it’s nothing that will keep anyone out of the game, including quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who has been working through an AC (shoulder) contusion.
