The Texas Longhorns are set to open up their season on Saturday against the Maryland Terrapins, hoping to avenge the 51-41 season-opening loss from a year ago.
Texas heads into Year 2 with head coach Tom Herman with the hopes that consistency at quarterback and an improved offensive line can shore up the issues that plagued Texas in 2017.
Herman is addressing the media for his weekly press conference on Longhorn Network at 12:00 p.m. CT.
Texas football coach Tom Herman said he can't remember the last time he's had so much fun with a group of guys. Said they are super close.

Herman: "I think our freshmen, whether they were here in the spring or during the summer, you’re going to see a lot of them play because they deserve it."

Herman: "If you told me six months ago that (Chris Nelson) would be a captain, I would say 'no way' because he doesn't say much." Nelson was the leading vote getter. #horns #hookem

.@CoachTomHerman: "We feel extremely good about our QB situation. Sam has certainly embraced being the starting QB, and has had a good week of practice. Shane Buechele, to his credit, what a team guy." #HookEm

.@CoachTomHerman on having a large amount of upperclassmen starters: "Any coach would tell you you'd rather have it that way than the other way - have 19 be underclassmen." #HookEm

Still no decision on the kicker: Josh Rowland or Cameron Dicker.

Herman hopes one separates this week. #HookEm
Tom Herman said that the starting five on the offensive line are playing at "a level that no one has seen around here in a long time".

Herman on naming Ehlinger over Buechele: "Shane made it very difficult to make that decision, probably the hardest decision I’ve had to make as a head coach and coordinator."
— Brian Davis (@BDavisAAS) August 27, 2018
As he's said repeatedly when asked recently, Tom Herman described the play-calling situation as collaborative. "We'll all be calling plays on offense."
