The Longhorn Republic is excited for spring football

A welcome break from the basketball struggles as the Texas Longhorns head back to the gridiron.

The Texas Longhorns football team is back on the field for spring practice, in spite of several pieces still in flux as the team lined up for the first time.

Offensively, early enrollee Jordan Whittington is lining up in the backfield and some young wide receivers will get a shot with Collin Johnson, Devin Duvernay, and John Burt all missing time. On the defensive side, defensive tackle Keondre Coburn is dealing with health issues and junior college enrollee Caleb Johnson will be held out of contact for the start of practice.

So what groups should we keep our eyes on over the next few weeks?

The basketball team couldn’t get the job done on senior night, falling to the TCU Horned Frogs and losing their fifth out of six games. They now open the Big 12 Tournament against No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks, who they have played well against all season. Texas faces a potential must-win game in the conference tournament to avoid finishing the season 16-16.

After a 4-0 shutout of the Stanford Cardinal, the baseball team struggled with injuries and errors to drop the final three games of the weekend series. As Texas heads back home, they need to figure out how to clean it up, as they prepare for a tough weekend series against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Kyle and Gerald close the show out by honoring one of the best traditions in all of college sports, Big Bertha, as they Bang the Drum. Kyle recaps a meeting with one of his heroes and Gerald breaks down a simple flow chart of whether or not you should tweet at a recruit.
