Despite the entire top 10 taking care of business to begin the season, the Texas Longhorns’ (1-0) placement in the AP Top 25 improved, as Tom Herman’s program now holds the No. 9 spot, up slightly from Texas’ previous ranking at No. 10.

The improvement in the polls comes courtesy of Florida, previously ranked No. 8, falling to No. 11 after opening the season with a somewhat-unconvincing 24-20 Week 0 win over Miami.

Texas, on the other hand, after entering the season ranked among the top 10 for the first time since 2010, kicked its season off with a convincing 45-14 win over Louisiana Tech.

More notably, the latest AP poll officially sets Texas up for a top-10 showdown in the coming days, as the Longhorns will welcome the No. 6 LSU Tigers to Austin on Saturday evening. The Tigers will serve as the highest-ranked foe that the Longhorns have hosted since Texas capped the 2014 regular season against No. 5 TCU.

Kickoff between No. 9 Texas and No. 6 LSU is scheduled for Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.

The top 10 is as follows:

  • 1 Clemson
  • 2 Alabama
  • 3 Georgia
  • 4 Oklahoma
  • 5 Ohio State
  • 6 LSU
  • 7 Michigan
  • 8 Notre Dame
  • 9 Texas
  • 10 Auburn
