UTEP wasn’t supposed to have any chance in this game, and it didn’t.
The Texas Longhorns kicked off their 2020 campaign with a 78-yard touchdown strike from Sam Ehlinger to Joshua Moore on the first play from scrimmage. From that point, Texas just continued to score, and score some more as UTEP struggled to get anything going as the Horns enjoyed a 59-3 blowout victory.
In what seemed to be a mere matter of minutes, the game was essentially out of reach as a historic showing from Ehlinger helped the Longhorns cruise to a comfortable 45-3 halftime cushion, paving way for plenty of reserve reps throughout the second half — and even some in the first half.
This result was expected from a Texas team that entered as a 43-point favorite, and now, the Horns are 1-0 with an early bye week looming.
