After completely obliterating the UTEP Miners on Saturday night, 59-3, the Texas Longhorns (1-0) are now among the nation’s top 10 in the latest AP Top 25, climbing five spots from No. 14 to No. 9.
The Longhorns enjoyed a similar surge in the Amway Coaches Poll, improving from No. 14 to No. 8.
Texas’ spot at No. 9 is their highest ranking since the No. 11 Longhorns lost to No. 6 Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown last season.
With then-No. 23 Iowa State dropping its opener to Louisiana, 31-14, Texas is one of just three ranked Big 12 teams, along with No. 3 Oklahoma and No. 11 Oklahoma State. Baylor, West Virginia, TCU, Iowa State, and Texas Tech are each receiving votes, as well.
Fresh off of their season-opening win, the Longhorns will immediately get some time off for a bye week, as they aren’t scheduled to take the field again until their conference slate gets underway on the road against Texas Tech (1-0) on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Kickoff between the No. 9 Longhorns and Red Raiders is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on FOX.
