Texas Longhorns in the NFL: Regular Season Week 3

Rookie Connor Williams impressed on Sunday night.

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at Carolina Panthers Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

We were treated with some amazing football to kick-off the season last weekend. While it’s going to be hard to top, week two did not disappoint. This week for the NFL Longhorns included a drop-kicked kickoff from Michael Dickson, a 55-yard field goal from Justin Tucker and an interception from Adrian Phillips. Rookie and new offensive guard Connor Williams showed out after a tough debut, too.

Week 2 Injuries: Marquise Goodwin (thigh), D’Onta Foreman (PUP List)

Injured Reserve: DeShon Elliott (fractured forearm), Chris Warren III (knee), Fozzy Whittaker (ACL)

Malcolm Brown (RB-LAR)

Season Stats: 13 Carries - 51 Yards, 2 Receptions - 18 Yards

Last Week: 34-0 win vs. Arizona Cardinals

With the Rams up by a large number of points throughout the game, Brown saw lots of action at running back. He received 12 carries and churned out 46 yards (3.8 YPC) from it.

This Week: vs. Los Angeles Chargers (Sun. 3:05 p.m. CBS)

Geoff Swaim (TE-DAL)

Season Stats: 3 Receptions - 18 Yards

Last Week: 20-13 win vs. New York Giants

This Week: at Seattle Seahawks (Sun. 3:25 p.m. FOX)

Trey Hopkins (OG-CIN)

Last Week: 34-23 win vs. Baltimore Ravens

Hopkins replaced injured Billy Price at center and allowed just one pressure on 36 pass block attempts, per Pro Football Focus. He will get the start at center this Sunday, as well.

This Week: at Carolina Panthers (Sun. 12:00 p.m. CBS)

Desmond Harrison (OT-CLE)

Last Week: 21-18 loss at New Orleans Saints

After a forgetful NFL debut, it seems as if Harrison responded well and had himself a nice game this past week.

This Week: vs. New York Jets (Thurs. 7:20 p.m. NFL Network)

Connor Williams (OT-DAL)

Last Week: 20-13 win vs. New York Giants

Per Pro Football Focus, Williams allowed zero quarterback pressures and posted an 86.8 pass blocking grade. This is a significant improvement from week one against the Panthers where he struggled with pass blocking.

This Week: at Seattle Seahawks (Sun. 3:25 p.m. FOX)

Malcom Brown (DT-NE)

Season Stats: 7 Tackles

Last Week: 31-20 loss at Jacksonville Jaguars

Brown recorded five solo tackles in a rather surprising runaway loss.

This Week: at Detroit Lions (Sun. 7:20 p.m. NBC)

Alex Okafor (DE-NO)

Season Stats: 4 Tackles

Last Week: 21-18 win vs. Cleveland Browns

Okafor notched two solo tackles in a wild three-point win for the Saints.

This Week: at Atlanta Falcons (Sun. 12:00 p.m. FOX)

Brian Orakpo (DE-TEN)

Season Stats: 3 Tackles, QB Pressure

Last Week: 20-17 win vs. Houston Texans

Orakpo had a solo tackle and a quarterback pressure in a win.

This Week: at Jacksonville Jaguars (Sun. 12:00 p.m. CBS)

Jordan Hicks (LB-PHI)

Season Stats: 16 Tackles, 1.5 Sacks, 2.5 TFL, PD

Last Week: 27-21 loss at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After an impressive showing last Thursday night, Hicks picked off right where he left off. He led the Eagles defense with nine total tackles, which included six solo tackles and a tackle for a loss.

This Week: vs. Indianapolis Colts (12:00 p.m. FOX)

Derrick Johnson (LB-OAK)

Season Stats: 10 Tackles

Last Week: 20-19 loss at Denver Broncos

The veteran middle linebacker had five total tackles in a heartbreaking last-minute defeat.

This Week: at Miami Dolphins (Sun. 12:00 p.m. CBS)

Holton Hill (CB-MIN)

Season Stats: 1 Tackle

Last Week: 29-29 tie at Green Bay Packers

Hill saw some action and earned his first career tackle in a tie.

This Week: vs. Buffalo Bills (Sun. 12:00 p.m. CBS)

Adrian Colbert (S-SF)

Season Stats: 8 Tackles

Last Week: 30-27 win vs. Detroit Lions

Colbert notched three solo tackles in a win.

This Week: at Kansas City Chiefs (Sun. 12:00 p.m. FOX)

Quandre Diggs (SS-DET)

Season Stats: 9 Tackles, 3 PDs, INT, TD

Last Week: 30-27 loss at San Francisco 49ers

Diggs totaled five tackles (four solo) and had two pass breakups in a controversial loss. Trailing 30-27 with less than three minutes remaining in the game, the Lions intercepted Jimmy Garoppolo’s pass and nearly returned it for a touchdown. The turnover was negated by a very late ticky-tack holding penalty on Diggs.

This Week: vs. New England Patriots (Sun. 7:20 p.m. NBC)

Adrian Phillips (SS-LAC)

Season Stats: 7 Tackles, PD, INT

Last Week: 31-20 win at Buffalo Bills

Phillips played his role and had himself a game as he recorded five tackles, a pass breakup and picked off rookie quarterback Josh Allen for an interception.

This Week: at Los Angeles Rams (Sun. 3:25 p.m. CBS)

Kenny Vaccaro (SS-TEN)

Season Stats: 11 Tackles, PD, INT

Last Week: 20-17 win vs. Houston Texans

Vaccaro was all over the field, wrapping up six tackles (five solo) in effort to help the Titans reach the win column.

This Week: at Jacksonville Jaguars (Sun. 12:00 p.m. CBS)

Earl Thomas (FS-SEA)

Season Stats: 11 Tackles, 2 PDs, INT

Last Week: 24-17 loss at Chicago Bears

Under the bright lights on Monday night, Thomas played well, totaling six tackles (four solo). On a ruled forward progress play, the elite safety did his thing and forced a textbook fumble on a pure hustle play. A play that may go unnoticed on the stat sheet but will be noted in the film room.

This Week: vs. Dallas Cowboys (Sun. 3:25 p.m. FOX)

Michael Dickson (P-SEA)

Season Stats: 13 Punts - 51.8 YPP, 5 Punts Inside 20-Yard Line

Last Week: 24-17 loss at Chicago Bears

Michael Dickson is truly something else. On a kickoff from midfield, the Aussie did something we haven’t seen in a while during a real football game. He dropped kicked it and pinned the Bears inside their own 15-yard line. Incredible stuff.

Dickson averaged 45.1 yards on seven punts, with one downed inside the 20-yard line. A shanked 10-yard punt really put a dent on his game average. Dickson managed to total more punting yards (316) than the Seahawks offense’s total yards (276).

This Week: vs. Dallas Cowboys (Sun. 3:25 p.m. FOX)

Phil Dawson (K-ARI)

Season Stats: Nothing

Last Week: 34-0 loss at Los Angeles Rams

Remarkably, Dawson has yet to attempt a field goal or extra point through two games. This speaks for how bad Arizona’s offense has been — it has scored just six points.

This Week: vs. Chicago Bears (Sun. 3:25 p.m. FOX)

Justin Tucker (K-BAL)

Season Stats: 3-3 FG (100%), 7-7 XP (100%)

Last Week: 34-23 loss at Cincinnati Bengals

Tucker drilled a 55-yard field goal with a cold-blooded celebration and made his two extra point attempts.

This Week: vs. Denver Broncos (Sun. 12:00 p.m. CBS)
