The freshmen trio of Cole Hammer and the twins, Pierceson Coody and Parker Coody, led the No. 8 Texas Longhorns to a second-place finish in the Lamkin Classic at the San Diego Country Club. All three freshmen placed in the Top 10 individually for the tournament.
The Longhorns made a surge on the final day after firing a third-round score of 284, which was nine strokes better than the Arizona State Sun Devils, who finished one stroke better than the Longhorns en route to their tournament victory.
Hammer posted his second straight tie for first, while Pierceson Coody scored his lowest finish in a tournament this season. After carding his first bogey of the day on the 18th hole, Hammer ended up falling in a playoff to Arizona State’s Mason Anderson. The star freshman golfer finished six-under for the tournament and posted a weekend score of 210 (69-75-66).

The Longhorns remain one of two programs in the Golfstat Top 25 without an event win this season. That could all change this weekend (Mar. 17 — Mar. 19), though. They’ll be back in action competing for the Valspar Collegiate Championship at the Floridian National Golf Club (St. Lucie County, FL).

Last week, freshman golfer Cole Hammer was selected to the Arnold Palmer Cup team. He became the ninth Longhorn all-time to earn this honor. The Arnold Palmer Cup will take place from June 7 through June 9 at The Alotian Club (Roland, Arkansas). This annual event is comprised of the best college golfers in America. The event is divided up between a United States team and an International Team based on one’s nationality. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women on both sides.
